More Purple Striped T-shirts

My 19th and 20th complete sewing projects in 2008!

Autumn does need some more shirts for the summer, but Prairie really doesn't, but Autumn loves them having matching clothes, so how can I resist? Now all three of us have matching t-shirts.

Front Room Quilt

Yay! I finished the front room quilt today. One of my new years goals is to clean out and get my home very organized. This is a long term, meaning the entire year goal. Part of that was to clean out my fabric stash and keep only fabric around that I have a specific purpose in mind. I also want to make all of my unwanted scraps into quilts to donate to Humanitarian Aid.

Anyway I made a quilt for my front room a little over 5 years ago. It turns out I bought enough fabric that I could make an entire second quilt from the scraps. So in January cut up all the fabric and sewed up all the blocks pretty quickly, like in a week. So I had the entire quilt top done in about two weeks. This was the first time that I have quilted a quilt that is larger than a wall hanging. It is difficult to move around that much bulk on a normal sewing machine. I got frustrated, took long breaks from it. Also I had this really nice fuzzy fabric leftover from a blanket I made for Jennie for Christmas. Well it is really nice, but whenever you cut it leaves little fuzzies everywhere. I think that is why it has taken me over a month and a half to get the binding done, because I hate the mess that the fuzzies make, but I am finally done.

Ben and Autumn were both very excited that they could use it. I know Jennie will be excited. She thinks I keep my apartment way to cool, and she will love staying warm with the nice fuzzy quilt.

The pattern used for this quilt was taken from this book, Easy Pieces. Since I finished the quilt I no longer need the picture in my sidebar as a book that I am working out of.

Polyester skirt

My 17th completed sewing project for 2008!

This is a skirt I made for Autumn for this summer. When my Grandma died 7.5 years ago, I found this really cool skirt in her basement (I don't have any digital pictures of me wearing it). It became like my favorite item of clothing, I would even maybe call it my signature piece of clothing my senior year of high school. This skirt is really special to me, it is the skirt I wore to the temple the day I got married. Anyways, my mom knew I loved this polyester skirt, so she bought some more fun patterned polyester for me on ebay. I made a skirt of one piece shortly after I was married and saved enough to make a skirt for a baby girl. I still have another piece of the polyester that I haven't made anything out of yet, so I made a skirt for Autumn out of the fabric.

Another addition of summer clothes

My 15th and 16th complete sewing projects for 2008!

This is just a red shirt that I actually bought the fabric to make summer clothes for Autumn. I bought the fabric because I realized that I am making tons of skirts and capris, but not as many t-shirts as she might need. So we bought this fabric to coordinate wtih the little pink skirt I made a couple of days ago with red flowers on it.

This is fabric let over from a skirt I made right after Prairie was born, because I didn't have any clothes that were fitting, but because the skirt was cut on the bias, there are large sections leftover, perfect for making a little skirt for a little girl.

Isn't Autumn a cutie wearing the clothes I made her

A sheep

So this isn't a post about a completed sewing project, because it will be months. My mom bought me a pattern book in september for me to do Christmas projects for Christmas this year. While we were in Idaho in February my mom bought me some fabric to start the quilt.

Well, saturday was on all day potty training day and I was worn out when the girls went to bed and instead of working on clothes for the girls, or quilts for other people, I decided I needed to work on something for me, so i made the first sheep for the quilt, and I am in love with that little sheep and can't wait until this project is at the top of my to do sewing list.

Free fabric = cute skirt for Autumn

My 14th complete sewing project for 2008!

My sister-in-law Laura was cleaning out her room and had some fabric she said she was never going to go us so she gave it to me to make some clothes for the girls. Autumn really liked this fabric so I made her skirt out of it for summer. Autumn is really excited to have a lot of play skirts. Of course play skirt have the cheaters sewn in, so she can play comfortably without having to worry about showing her cute little panties.

Ben's pitted-out dress shirt

My 12th complete sewing project for 2008!

Autumn picked out some cotton broadcloth fabric from my stack for some shirts for this summer. I needed to decide on a good pattern for shirts with non-stretchy fabric. Me and Jennie were kind of crazy and took the girls to Joann's when it was really nap time and I ended up getting the pattern for this shirt. I was pretty excited about it and immediately started working on it when we got home, and was able to finish it. Autumn was thrilled with it. I'm excited because what a great use for a shirt that Ben won't wear anymore.

More Clothes for Autumn

My 9th, 10th and 11th completed projects in 2008!

Autumn's cheetah print shirt

Autumn's capris out of black organic cotton, how exciting!

another pair of capris for Autumn, they look very 80's to me, they are actually scraps from a skirt I made for myself last summer

Clothes for all the girls

My 6th, 7th, and 8th complete projects in 2008!

matching t-shirts for the girls

I bought this fabric like a year ago at a local fabric store in the bargain bin, it has some marks on it, so I got the piece for $1. So Prairie's shirt has marks on it, but figure it won't matter after she wears it once.

my shirt

So I have been in a desperate need of some winter shirts. I have this shirt that I really like that I got from gap, so I traced it out and made a shirt, and I have to say I am really really pleased with it.

Autumn summer clothes

My 4th and 5th projects done in 2008!

If you notice on my sidebar I have been working on some quilts. I have decided that making quilts is fun, but a very very slow process. I have a quilt that I am making for my front room and it is almost complete, I just have to finish sewing the binding down my hand. I am also working on another 2 lap quilts and a queen size quilt for wedding gifts for some of my dear friends. Anyway so I have been sewing tons and tons, but hadn't started finishing a lot of projects until today.

Anyway when I was getting tired of sewing quilt after quilt block, I realized that spring was around the corner and I better start Autumn some new summer clothes. We had a fun afternoon looking through all of my fabric and Autumn choosing what she wanted me to make for her.

So the skirt is actually scraps from a blanket I made for Prairie when she was a baby. Autumn of course needs a pink shirt in every size she is.
